KC Current Unveils Plans for Levee Park Along Missouri Riverfront
The Kansas City Current has announced its vision for Levee Park, a new public space along the Missouri River designed to reconnect residents with the waterfront.
Spanning over an acre at the Berkley Riverfront, the park will include trails, scenic overlooks, children’s play areas, and performance spaces, all aimed at transforming a previously neglected part of the riverfront into a vibrant community destination.
This initiative builds on the Current’s ongoing investment in Kansas City, following the opening of CPKC Stadium and the groundbreaking of their mixed-use riverfront district.
Missouri Senate Passes Stadium Funding Bill in Special Session
After stalling at the end of Missouri’s regular legislative session in May, the Show-Me Sports Investment Act (SB 3) is back—and this time, it passed. In a 19-13 vote early Thursday morning, the Missouri Senate approved the controversial stadium funding bill aimed at keeping the Chiefs and Royals in-state.
The proposal would allow Missouri to help cover up to 50% of the cost of stadium projects exceeding $500 million, using state tax revenues generated at the venues. Just three weeks ago, a similar bill (SB 80) died on the Senate floor amid partisan gridlock over tax relief and unrelated ballot measures.
The impasse prompted Governor Mike Kehoe to call a special session, and political maneuvering, including reshuffling committee members, helped push SB 3 across the line. The bill now moves to the House, as both Missouri and Kansas continue their high-stakes tug-of-war to secure the future of Kansas City’s teams.
