🏢 DEVELOPMENT SCENE

Gillon Property Group Unveils $100M Master Plan to Shape the Future of Country Club Plaza

Gillon Property Group has submitted a $100 million master plan to guide the future development of Kansas City’s historic Country Club Plaza. Now under review by city planners, the 28-page document outlines new district-wide standards focused on walkability, mixed-use spaces, public gathering areas, and preservation of the Plaza’s Spanish-style architecture.

The plan identifies five potential redevelopment sites that could allow for taller buildings—ranging from 150 to 275 feet—while balancing modern density with historical character. Proposed upgrades include improved streetscapes with bike lanes, medians, and pedestrian-friendly zones, possibly including car-free stretches like Nichols Road. If approved by the City Plan Commission in December, Gillon plans to begin with landscaping and infrastructure improvements, aiming to set the Plaza up for long-term vibrancy and growth.

Let me know what you think of this redevelopment ➡️

KC’s Parade of Hearts is getting a redesign for 2026, but this time the “KC” is gone.

The KC Heart is losing its “KC,” and I have questions. The new Parade of Hearts design feels less like a celebration of Kansas City and more like a selfie station. Here’s why this hollow heart doesn’t sit right with me or my seven-year-old.

🏐 SPORTS SCENE

Sports Betting Goes Live in Missouri on Dec 1. Chiefs Fans Can Wager Right from Tailgates

Starting December 1, Missouri residents will finally be able to place legal sports bets from their phones — including during Chiefs tailgates and games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The launch follows years of legislative delays, even as neighboring states like Kansas and Illinois moved ahead. BetMissouri.com projects more than $65 million in wagers during the first week and nearly $263 million in the first four months, with major events like the NFL playoffs, Super Bowl, and March Madness driving activity.

Voters approved sports betting under Amendment 2 in 2024, which imposes a 10% tax on revenues and restricts bets on in-state college athletes. The Missouri Gaming Commission, led by Jan Zimmerman, is finalizing background checks and regulations before the rollout. Analysts expect Missouri’s first-year betting handle to reach nearly $3.9 billion, keeping millions of dollars from flowing across state lines.
