Black & Veatch Lands TIF Approval for $1.12B HQ-Centered Mixed-Use Campus in Overland Park

Overland Park’s City Council has approved a tax increment financing (TIF) district to support Black & Veatch’s proposed $1.12 billion mixed-use campus, anchored by a new 612,000-square-foot headquarters.

The project spans 78 acres and includes plans for nearly 2,000 housing units, 550,000 square feet of retail, a 160-room hotel, and over 5,900 parking spaces. Black & Veatch will relocate its 2,200 local employees to the new site and donate its current headquarters for use as a public park.

The firm will develop its HQ but work with outside developers for the rest of the project. With like a proposed Community Improvement District and a Transportation Development District in the works, construction could begin as early as 2026, with full build-out expected by 2038.

🏐 SPORTS SCENE

Chiefs Launch Kansas City Classic with Battle Sports as Title Sponsor

The Kansas City Chiefs are introducing a new college football brand called the Battle Sports Kansas City Classic, starting with the Aug. 28 game between Cincinnati and Nebraska at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Omaha-based Battle Sports will serve as the title sponsor, aiming to connect with youth football families through on-site activations. While no additional matchups have been confirmed yet, the Chiefs are working to make this an annual event, leveraging Arrowhead’s central location as a draw for Big 12, SEC, and Big Ten programs.

The inaugural game, originally scheduled for Lucas Oil Stadium, was moved after the Chiefs acquired hosting rights for a reported $2.5 million. It will air nationally on ESPN as the featured Thursday night opener.
