Guadalupe Centers Opens New Mixed-Income Apartments to Support Families and Teachers

Guadalupe Centers has opened the Villa View Apartments, a 50-unit mixed-income housing development at 1616 Hardesty Avenue in Kansas City’s Historic Northeast. The nonprofit broke ground on the $16 million project in February 2024 in partnership with Consolidated Housing Solutions. Now fully leased, the four-story complex offers a range of affordable and market-rate units, with rents from $455 to $1,350. Residents benefit from on-site amenities like a rooftop patio, computer lab, and playground, as well as free access to Guadalupe Centers’ education, health, and youth programs.

The project aims to bring more stability to local families and help retain teachers in the charter school system. Guadalupe Centers leaders say this is just the beginning, with more community-centered projects already in the works.

KC Current Gets Global Spotlight in New Season of "Ted Lasso"

Kansas City's own NWSL team, the KC Current, is set to gain international attention through a unique pop-culture crossover with the hit series Ted Lasso. Filming for the show's fourth season recently wrapped up a 10-day shoot in Kansas City, featuring scenes with actor and Overland Park native Jason Sudeikis, who portrays Ted Lasso coaching a fictional women’s team.

The cast and crew were spotted around town, including the Country Club Plaza and CPKC Stadium—home of the KC Current. Players like Claire Hutton and Michelle Cooper expressed excitement about the representation, especially as Sudeikis has been seen wearing team gear. Fans and athletes alike see this as a meaningful opportunity to elevate the visibility of women’s sports and celebrate Kansas City’s rising profile in the global sports arena.
