Kansas City is having one of those weeks where a lot of different parts of the city are moving at once.
New restaurants are opening, major development projects are revealing new details, and community initiatives are continuing to shape neighborhoods across the metro.
This edition, we’re diving into:
• Joe’s KC BBQ opening a new concept called Joe’s Next Door in Kansas City, Kansas. • Updated renderings reveal new details for Luminary Park, the planned 5.5-acre park built over I-670 connecting Downtown and the Crossroads. • Eden Village prepares to build its second tiny home community for people experiencing chronic homelessness. • A new retail incubator for Asian-owned businesses launches in Columbus Park. • CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current, is named 2025 Professional Sports Field of the Year. • The Kansas City Art Institute launches Marble & Canvas, a new retail store highlighting work from students and alumni.
From new restaurants and cultural initiatives to major public space projects, these updates show how Kansas City continues to grow while building momentum toward the years ahead.
🍖 JOE’S KC BBQ TO OPEN “JOE’S NEXT DOOR” RESTAURANT IN KCK The team behind Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que is opening a new concept called Joe’s Next Door across the street from the iconic gas station location in Kansas City, Kansas. The restaurant will open in the former Taco Republic space and is designed to give locals a quicker dining option while still serving favorites like the Z-Man sandwich.
🏟️ CPKC STADIUM NAMED 2025 PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FIELD OF THE YEAR CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current, has been named 2025 Professional Sports Field of the Yearby the Sports Field Managers Association. The award recognizes excellence in playing surface quality, maintenance, and innovation, making the stadium the first purpose-built NWSL venue to receive the honor.
🖌️ KANSAS CITY ART INSTITUTE TO OPEN “MARBLE & CANVAS” RETAIL STORE AND ONLINE SHOP The Kansas City Art Institute is launching Marble & Canvas, a new retail store and online shop that will showcase artwork, merchandise, and creative goods made by KCAI students, alumni, and faculty. The shop aims to highlight the school’s creative community while giving artists a new platform to sell their work.
🏛️HISTORIC DOWNTOWN BUILDING TO BECOME “NEW MIDWESTERN” RESTAURANT A historic building at 10th and Broadway that once housed Seiden’s Furs is being transformed into Loretta Jean’s Restaurant & Bar, a new concept focused on “New Midwestern” cuisine using seasonal ingredients from local farms. The restaurant is expected to open in fall 2026, bringing new life to a structure that dates back to the 1800s.
🤝 NONPROFIT LAUNCHES RETAIL INCUBATOR FOR ASIAN-OWNED BUSINESSES IN COLUMBUS PARK The nonprofit Hella Good Deeds is opening a retail incubator in Columbus Park designed to support Asian-owned product businesses with shared retail space, mentorship, and resources. Leaders say the project is a step toward a larger vision of creating a future Asian cultural district in the neighborhood.
🏡 EDEN VILLAGE PLANS SECOND TINY HOME COMMUNITY FOR HOMELESS IN KCK Eden Village is preparing to build a second tiny-home neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas, expanding its housing-first model for people experiencing chronic homelessness. The new site is expected to include around 30 small homes and a community resource center, building on the success of the first village that opened in 2024.

Luminary Park Renderings Show More Detailed Vision for South Loop Park
Kansas City’s long planned Luminary Park, part of the South Loop Project, received updated renderings this week during a City Council presentation, offering the clearest look yet at how the future downtown park could function.
While the overall concept remains the same, a 5.5 acre park built over Interstate 670 reconnecting downtown and the Crossroads, the new visuals move beyond the early concept images. The latest renderings break the space into distinct zones, including a performance pavilion with a large event lawn, a dedicated family play area, and community gathering spaces.
Plans also show retail or marketplace areas, walking paths, and landscaped green spaces, suggesting the park is designed to be an active destination rather than simply a passive green space.
The project is still working through funding and approvals, but the updated renderings signal the design is moving from concept toward a buildable plan. If completed, Luminary Park would become one of the most significant new public spaces added to downtown Kansas City in decades.

Chiefs Reload Offense for 2026 with Kelce Return and Kenneth Walker Signing
The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into the 2026 season with a familiar core and a refreshed offensive approach. **Travis Kelce confirmed he will return for his 14th NFL season**, continuing one of the most productive quarterback–tight end partnerships in league history alongside Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City also made a notable move in free agency by signing **running back Kenneth Walker III**, adding an explosive rushing threat to the offense. Walker brings big-play ability after several productive seasons in Seattle and could help strengthen a run game that has been inconsistent in recent years.
Together, the moves signal the Chiefs are adjusting rather than rebuilding. With Mahomes still in his prime, Kelce returning, and new pieces being added to the offense, Kansas City is once again positioning itself for another run at the top of the AFC heading into the 2026 season.
Kansas City's Most Overrated and Underrated Suburbs
In this video, we’re breaking down the suburbs around Kansas City that get way more hype than they deserve—and the hidden gems that might surprise you.
Modern Living in the Heart of Midtown’s Manheim Park
Welcome to 4239 Tracy Avenue, where modern design meets the historic character of one of Kansas City’s original streetcar suburbs. Completed in 2022 and located in Manheim Park, this three-bedroom, three-bath home offers 1,602 square feet of thoughtfully designed living space, blending contemporary comfort with the walkability and charm Midtown is known for.
Inside, the home features a clean, shotgun-style layout that draws you through the main level with an open and connected flow. The kitchen anchors the space with an oversized eat-in island that naturally becomes the gathering point, whether it’s hosting friends, helping with homework, or enjoying a quiet morning at home. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the living area with natural light, giving the space an airy and modern feel. A convenient half bath completes the main floor, making it functional for both everyday living and entertaining.
Upstairs, you’ll find three well-sized bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The primary suite offers a comfortable retreat with a walk-in closet and a private en suite bath. The additional bedrooms provide flexibility for guests, a home office, or creative space while still maintaining a practical layout for daily living.
The basement is already stubbed and ready to be finished, creating an opportunity to expand the home with a media room, fitness area, or additional guest suite in the future.
Outside, the location places you right in the center of Midtown living. You’re just a few blocks from local favorites like Oddly Correct Coffee, minutes from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Country Club Plaza, and surrounded by the historic streets that define this vibrant Kansas City neighborhood. The home also still carries six years remaining on its original ten-year tax abatement, adding long-term value to an already compelling Midtown property.
