Kansas City to Reconnect Downtown with Roy Blunt Luminary Park Over I-670
A New Green Heart for Kansas City 🌿✨
For over a century, I-670 has split the core of Kansas City. That’s about to change.
Say hello to Roy Blunt Luminary Park — a stunning 5.5-acre green space set to cap part of the highway and reconnectthe Crossroads Arts District with the Central Business District for the first time in generations.
Unveiled at the Downtown Council’s annual luncheon, the park honors former U.S. Senator Roy Blunt, whose leadership secured key federal funding to make this bold vision real. Leaders like Mayor Quinton Lucas and H&R Block CEO Jeff Jones called it a landmark step forward for downtown KC.
Here’s what’s coming: ✔️ Open lawns & public art ✔️ Shaded seating & gathering spaces ✔️ Potential playgrounds, dog parks & an amphitheater
Luminary Park isn’t just a park — it’s downtown’s new front yard, a place where community meets creativity.
It joins a wave of transformational projects reshaping KC, alongside the new airport terminal, KC Streetcar extension, CPKC Stadium, and the Zhou B Art Center.
