Hey Kansas City Enthusiasts,
There’s no slowing down in Kansas City—this week brings bold moves across the metro, from stadium approvals to major streetscape upgrades and even a tropical twist coming downtown. The city’s energy is real, and it’s reaching every corner.
In this edition, we're highlighting:
▪️ A $16.8M stadium and performance center greenlit in Riverside
▪️ A pedestrian-focused plaza project officially kicks off on 18th Street
▪️ KC Bier Co.’s 29,000 sq ft beer garden expansion on the East Side
▪️ The Palm Tree Club bringing beach vibes to Power & Light
And if you’re curious about what’s catching the most clicks, we’ve got the buzz—from a brand new Pickleball Club to KC’s latest efforts to refresh downtown ahead of the World Cup.
$16.8 Riverside Stadium & Performance Center Approved for KC Current
The Kansas City Current, after opening the 11,500-seat CPKC Stadium on the Berkley Riverfront in 2024, is now moving forward with plans for a second, smaller facility in Riverside.
The newly approved $16.8 million project includes a 2,000-seat outdoor stadium and a 17,000-square-foot performance center with indoor and outdoor training areas, locker rooms, a player lounge, and meeting space. Located just south of the team’s existing training complex, the venue will support smaller tournaments, such as youth and Missouri Youth Soccer Association games, and potentially future Big 12 Championship events.
The city of Riverside has granted sales tax exemptions on construction materials, and the project is part of a broader TIF plan dating back to 1996. Groundbreaking is scheduled for July 17, with construction expected to take just over eight months.
Missouri house passes $1.5B show-me sports act to support Chiefs and Royals stadium projects.
The Missouri House has passed the Show-Me Sports Investment Act in a 90–58 vote, sending it to Governor Mike Kehoe after it cleared the Senate last week. Revived during a special session, the bill allows Missouri to back major stadium projects—like a new Royals ballpark or upgrades to Arrowhead—through long-term state-issued bonds covering up to 50% of eligible costs, repayable over 30 years using a set “baseline” year of tax revenue.
It also provides tax credits worth 50% of private infrastructure investment, capped at $50 million or 10% of total costs. With a projected public cost of $1.5 billion over three decades, the legislation includes safeguards like prevailing wage requirements and clawback provisions if a team relocates.
While Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas supports the measure, neither the Royals nor the Chiefs have formally committed to staying in Missouri or disclosed how much public funding they’re seeking—leaving some uncertainty as Kansas’ competing offer nears its June 30 expiration.
