KU Cancer Center Breaks Ground on Transformative New Cancer Complex
On May 23, 2025, the University of Kansas Cancer Center broke ground on a new complex that will combine research, clinical care, and advanced therapies in one location for the first time.
Located at 39th and Rainbow in Kansas City, the facility will feature real-time collaboration between physicians and researchers, faster access to personalized treatments, and an in-house CAR T-cell therapy lab.
Backed by a historic $100 million gift from the Sunderland Foundation and other funding sources, the project builds on KU’s NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center status and aims to become a global leader in cancer care and research.
Kansas City to Host Home Run Derby X at Kauffman Stadium
Kauffman Stadium will host Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby X on Saturday, September 13, 2025, marking the first time the event is held in a Major League ballpark. This fast-paced, co-ed 3-on-3 competition combines power hitting with defensive plays, offering a fresh twist on the traditional derby format.

Royals Outfield: Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, and Ben Zobrist.
They will face off against teams led by former MLB stars Daniel Murphy and Michael Cuddyer, with additional participants to be announced.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with the first game starting at 7:00 p.m.. The event will serve as the final qualifier in the 2025 Home Run Derby X tour, determining the last team to advance to the championship in Salt Lake City.
