🏢 DEVELOPMENT SCENE

A major mixed-use development featuring over 930 residential units and 23,000 square feet of commercial space is moving forward in southern Overland Park, despite pushback from nearby residents.

The Overland Park Planning Commission voted 7-4 to recommend rezoning for the long-discussed site at 159th Street and Metcalf Avenue, which previously housed a city fire station and has seen several failed proposals over the years.

The project, led by M159 RE LLC, will include apartments, brownstones, and civic gathering areas across approximately 20 buildings. While some commissioners supported the plan for its potential to revitalize the area, others expressed concern over its density and limited nonresidential components.

The proposal now moves to the City Council for a final decision on May 5.
